I mean, it was like someone cast a spell on the Rams in that 2nd half. Or flipped some kind of switch.
Actually, I guess it began late in the 2nd quarter when McVay called that inexplicable empty set on 3rd and a foot.
McVay then started a series of tactical playcalling miscues that never really ended. It was almost like he was experiencing a brain freeze thing.
Suddenly the Ram OL couldn’t run block or pass protect.
The D looked helpless on virtually every snap against the crippled 49er O. That one series where Shanny called 10 consecutive running plays was particularly humiliating. I was squirming in my recliner while watching that abuse.
Morris’ D had had 2 full months to prepare for this 49er O scheme and despite having 3 future HOF’ers the Rams D looked like Swiss cheese. Honestly, I’ve seldom seen a D look so helpless. Gawd, they even seemed to forget how to tackle!
McVay, too, had had 2 months to prepare for this rematch and all his 11 players on O were present and healthy. First half was great but then wheels fell off and McVay never seemed to have a plan B for when 49ers reverted to their form in the previous 5 games. WTF? How can our ‘genius’ O minded HC not have a Plan B?
I saw Ramsey arguing with a coach on the sideline and that coach looked suspiciously like Morris. What was THAT all about? I suspect that it was about Morris going to his soft zone semi-prevent D too early and too often.
I’m afraid that these Ram coaches may have lost the confidence of some of their players, tbh. They’ve lost some of mine, that’s for sure.
Not that I’m excusing the lack of execution on the part of so many players. I’m particularly disappointed with the OL in the 2nd half.
Like I said, it almost appeared like most Ram players forgot how to play football and McVay forgot how to call plays. Very troubling.
