Only mistake McVay made was trusting this defense

Not sure why everyone is ripping him on the board. Scapegoat?

At the end of the half, they were trying to get more points on the board, not run out the clock. I think this is the right, winning attitude. Is it McVay's fault that the O-line got manhandled all day? Play didn't work - clock was running, they punt it away. Our supposedly 'formidable' front then lets journeyman Jimmy traipse down the field in under a minute to kick a field goal.

At the end of regulation - he did what every other poster on this board said he should do - run, run, run. He wasn't really looking to get a first down, but in hindsight, he should have. Why not throw on 3rd down - a first down and the game's over. Once again - he did the 'smart' thing - run the ball, make San Fran use all their timeouts. And what did it get them - the defense, once again, vomited all over themselves and let the 9ers go 88 yards in under a minute with no timeouts and score easily.

I am really starting the hate this defense. Statistically they look good on paper, but at key moments in this game - where were they? Where was Donald and Miller on that last drive. A championship defense would have snuffed out all hope of a 49'er comeback. Not this group. We were bullied by an online with 2 backup tackles! Forget the hype - this D can and will fold like a house of cards. Probably my least favorite Rams D since McVay got here in 2017. 2019 D was worse, but this unit is not far behind in crunch time ineptitude.

What, exactly, did the coaches do wrong?
