I think that's a fair take. I am convinced, both by your early-season urging and watching him myself as a RAM fan for the last 15 games, that while he has elite traits and can play at elite level, he still has some bonehead in hIm.
That's not to say others don't, but not protecting the ball in the shadow of your own goal post, it's not the hallmarks of a consistently elite QB and his struggles during our skid were a big part of not being the number one seed right now.
All that being said, I'm convinced that some of these bad habits happened at Detroit and like others have posited, it's almost like he believes that he hast to carry the team no matter what we're all hope is lost.
It's going to be very interesting seeing him in the playoffs because I do have a strong belief in him and the team. I think he is very capable of taking us where we all want to go and listening to him in his press conferences, you can literally hear McVay's coaching about the stupid plays he's made by what he's parroting in those press conferences.
I'm still very glad we made the move for him and would do it all over again sight unseen.
As Aqib Talib said, if you want to become famous, make big plays in the playoffs. I'm looking forward to Stafford cementing himself as an elite quarterback going forward after he brings us the ring and burying the boneheaded plays forever.

He needs to be more careful with the ball and limit his gunslinger tendencies in the playoffs.
.
And that's all anyone has been saying. No one says he does not have elite traits. It's just that he can
be great. And can be bad.
And to most of us, if he can be so great why does he still do the bad things deep in his own end zone.
If he'd eliminate that, there would be zero complaints.
he does not eliminate it (so far) because it is who he is.
What he hope is he eliminates that and elevates his play to not have one of those bad games
and kill SB chances.
