The Los Angeles Rams have been heavily affected by COVID-19 recently, with their scheduled game on Sunday versus the Seattle Seahawks being pushed to Tuesday. While the Rams continue to have players testing negative and being activated from the reserve/COVID-19 list, Jordan Fuller is among the players who remain on the list.

With Fuller’s status uncertain, Sean McVay revealed that Ernest Jones would be the most likely candidate to handle the signal-calling duties on defense in relief of Fuller.

“That’s a good question,” McVay said. “That is definitely something that is most likely to occur, as far as Ernest being able to have the dot with kind of where he’s ascended himself to. He is the most likely candidate, absolutely.”

It was interesting to see the Rams trust Fuller — a second-year safety — with the green dot on the back of his helmet this season, indicating he would be communicating the plays that Raheem Morris was calling. But with Fuller potentially sidelined against the Seahawks, the Rams may lean on their rookie linebacker in Jones to relay the plays.

Jones has become a main fixture in Los Angeles’ defense, logging 48 tackles, three pass breakups, two interceptions, and one sack despite not starting every game this season. The first-year linebacker out of South Carolina has shown flashes of being a long-term solution at inside linebacker for the Rams — and if Fuller is unable to be activated in time for Tuesday’s contest, Jones will handle an even larger role on defense.
