Earnest Jones has the look of a Safety. Maybe of a large WR. Doesn't seem like he should be 230 lbs. He simply doesn't have the prototypical build of an ILB. And that's why he was still there for the Rams to choose so late in the draft.
Yet, for the Rams, he may become the perfect ILB. Great instincts against the run. He moves so fluidly. A sure tackler. Aggressive. But also can cover RBs and TEs and runs really well. He seems to "feel" where he should set up in a passing zone. He is all football player.
Sometimes you can look at a player perform early in his career and just know that this guy is going to be awfully good. Don't get caught up in the metrics. Forget his 40 time or stuff like that. Just watch him play. He's already a joy to watch if you turn off the sound on your TV and just follow him around
He'll be the Cooper Kupp of our Defense pretty soon.
