Staley is clearly among those that let the "analytics makes my decisions for me" group of coaches. Dumb. Near sighted. As though analytics is AI.
Data will always be for input, but not for decisions.
Analytics can't replace intuition, instincts, game conditions, a sense of emotion, or momentum swings.
All Staley had to do was take the points that were there to take each time down, and the Chargers almost certainly win. And then to come out and say that this is the way the Chargers are going to play? Even dumber. I'll bet if the players were honest, they're questions those "analytics" decisions.
Staley may or may not be a good HC in time. But right now, clearly he's got a lot to learn. He's dealing with humans; not machines that respond to data streams.
