Yeah-its not fair to form that opinion until the end. But as of now I would not be surprised if the conclusion is as follows: Stafford has more of what you hope for in a playoff run than Goff. But any qb-even Brady-will not do well if he is constantly pressured in the pocket-unless of course he is an escape artist. Look at tonight -It was clear that Rogers had far more time to find open receivers than Stafford. Notwithstanding his TD throws two of which displayed his unique arm, he did not play like he could because of the constant pressure. Add to that the fact that his back issues have always been with him in Detroit and his age only makes things worse-I would not be surprised if when its all said and done we come out on the wrong side of the trade.
Speaking of "pressure" on a qb our alleged elite D line didn't put elite pressure on Rogers who , even at his age, can run-but didn't need to.
For those that have been on this board for a long time the following will sound familiar: A great HOF offensive HC once said you build an elite team from within-meaning starting with an O line and then moving to building an elite defensive backfield-corners, safeties, LBs, etc. And this is all before you start collecting star skill players. Until you take care of the O line and D backfield the skill guys will be reduced to average if not worse. That coach? Sid Gillman.
Personally, I think its a mistake to focus on qbs when it comes to looking at "what's wrong". The game is still about blocking and tackling.
