L.A.Rams
I never questioned the trade of Roman Gabriel in its aftermath because the Rams had a great season with John Hadl in 1973. But Hadl was soon out of the picture. What might the Rams have done if Gabriel had been a strong leader in 1974 and beyond? Part of such a discussion would have to include the trove of draft picks the Rams got from the Packers for Hadl.
Gabriel had a great year in 73 too, however, he slumped like Hadl as besides Tom Brady, time awaits no man. Now, the Eagles did not have the talent of the Rams, but you have to factor in there would be no Harold Jackson too. Gabriel completed 57% of his passes in 74 with 9 TD's & 12 INT's in 11 games, then in 75 came back with completed 52% of his passes with 13 TD's & 11 INT's. Before giving way to Mike Boryla in Vermeil's first year in 76.
IMO, Gabe had more left then Hadl, but not much more and although a great leader, not sure how much better the Rams would have been with Gabriel and although I was far too young to appreciate him, I always hold him in high regard and was very sad as a you lad of of 7 years old in 73 when the balding pudge belly Hadl was now leading the Rams over the God like Gabriel.
