Love the strategy and your point the Rams have been doing this since McVay got here with Watkins and Cooks.

Almost all teams stink at drafting. So many variables including health, ability to translate to pro game, personal habits, etc.

The one thing drafting does is help you with salary cap when you hit, but I think street free agents are just as good many times than those 4-7 draft picks. Lots of good talent out there.

And the Rams are getting guys who have a proven track record for these 1-3 round picks and the probability of the player being picked being as good as the Rams traded player for is less.

The 3 reasons for the Rams success since McVay has gotten here are:

1) McVay himself
2) using draft picks to trade for established high end players
3) Emphasis on WR position
