Your analysis appears correct. The Rams have to stay no more than one game behind AZ and beat them in the rematch in AZ later this year. Also, the Rams cannot afford to lose to any NFC teams. None.
Of course, do the Rams even have a home field advantage this year? McVay can't allow the team to go into a late season dive as we have seen the last 3 years.
