"take the top off of a defense"= Strawman
There is no evidence Jackson was "taking the top off the defense" Only playing on twenty something percent of the offensive snaps. Can he take the top off? Absolutely.
Was he being used to do that by McVay? Not really apparently. Is it a necessary component? That's debatable. Based on the teams decision to try to find a trade partner at Jackson's request I would say the team and coaches see him as expendable. The Rams are a top 3 scoring team only behind AZ and Tampa with Jackson "taking the top off the defense". I would rather see him stay, sure, but he's not that important and hasn't been all season. It may come back to bite the team in the arse and in may not. No one knows that for sure. All we know is that up to this point he's not really needed.
