Never has one man dominated top flight receivers like this guy. Take his 2009 season (when he was ROBBED of Defensive Player of the Year). These are his week by week stats in man-to-man coverage:
Receiver Receptions Yards
Andre Johnson 4 35
Randy Moss 4 24
Justin Gage 4 37
Marques Colston 2 33
Ted Ginn 2 57 (burned for long TD on MNF)
Terrell Owens 3 13
Louis Murphy 4 58
Davone Bess 4 18
Mike Sims-Walker 3 49
Randy Moss 5 34
Steve Smith 1 5
Terrell Owens 3 31
Antonio Bryant 2 22
Roddy White 2 16
Reggie Wayne 3 33
Chad Ochocinco 0 0
He notched 31 passes defensed and 54 tackles to boot. He earned the highest single season grade o any cornerback in the Pro Football Focus Era (2006-present).
Never has the league seen domination like this. And he always traveled with the #1 receiver, regardless of where that receiver lined up. Additionally, the man was a force in run support (something Deion hated to do). Deion was certainly faster and more naturally gifted, but Revis pound for pound was the better cover man.
16 guys all stranded on Revis Island....
Jets made it to AFC Championship game that year (and the following year) primarily due to this dude's ability to literally close off one side of the field in the passing game.
