I don’t want to be THAT guy, but Sean McVay is on the precipice of dethroning one of Bill Belichick’s historic coaching records. We all know that whenever the Los Angeles Rams hold a lead at halftime, broadcasters and a group of people will take to Twitter to share McVay’s record — to the dismay of McVay — when possessing a lead at the midway point of a game.

Following Sunday’s blowout victory over the New York Giants, McVay is now 41-0 when the Rams lead at halftime. Los Angeles was able to jump out to a 28-3 lead at halftime in Week 6 as they scored 38 unanswered points versus the Giants, cruising to a 38-11 win. Belichick once had 42 consecutive wins when leading at halftime with the New England Patriots, which is the current record.

So besides the anticipated narrative of Jared Goff and Matthew Stafford squaring off against their former teams in Week 7, all eyes will be on whether or not the Rams can help McVay tie the long-standing record. After facing the Lions in Week 7 – a game in which the Rams are 15.5-point favorites – Los Angeles then takes on the hapless Houston Texans in Week 8.

Provided the next two opponents that the Rams will face, many will likely expect McVay to break the record with ease. That being said, it’s safe to assume that McVay won’t want to speak or hear anything about the record in hopes it doesn’t jinx him against inferior opponents in the coming weeks.
