Rams-Giants injury report: Daniel Jones looking more likely to start vs LA
Saquon Barkley was not seen at Thursday practice however

NFL: New York Giants Blue-White Scrimmage

New York Giants quarterback Daniel Jones “was the first QB in every drill” on Thursday, according to Dan Duggan, a Giants beat reporter for The Athletic. Jones is in the concussion protocol following a scary hit against the Dallas Cowboys in Week 5, but Duggan notes that likely the only thing keeping Jones from starting against the LA Rams this Sunday will be a setback.

Daniel Jones was the first QB in every drill. He’ll be listed as limited because he’s in the non-contact part of the concussion protocol but QBs are always non-contact. Looks like the only way he won’t play on Sunday is if he has a setback: pic.twitter.com/O50QXphQbP

If Jones is unable to start, then backup Mike Glennon will be getting the first team duties against the Rams.

Daniel Jones is only one of many injury concerns for the New York Giants. Running back Saquon Barkley suffered an ankle injury against Dallas and Duggan noted that he was not at practice on Thursday. Neither was receiver Kenny Golladay, the Giants’ top free agent signing in 2021 and another player dealing with an injury right now. Golladay has a knee injury.

Meanwhile, New York did see both left tackle Andrew Thomas and left guard Matt Skura at practice with Jones, two players who could be questionable for Sunday.

Receivers Kadarius Toney, Darius Slayton, and Sterling Shepard were all limited participants on Wednesday, as were defensive backs Nate Ebner, Jabrill Peppers, and Logan Ryan. Offensive lineman Ben Bredeson was also limited Wednesday.

Will New York play it cautious with Jones? Duggan thinks that is unlikely, as “extra time off” doesn’t have an impact on the likelihood of making a concussion better or worse. If Daniel Jones is cleared from protocol, he will start, and that’s looking probable.

The other suggestion I've seen is that the Giants should hold Jones out this week to be safe. Once he clears the concussion protocol, he's cleared. There's no "extra" cleared by waiting a week. So if he's cleared, he'll play (and hopefully stop lowering his head against tacklers)
