I joined the mob to get rid of ST coach last year. I see the same mob forming now but I feel less ready to grab my pitchfork.
I hate the passive approach because of the Walsh/Montana years. However the Tampa Two foiled the GSOT more often than any other defense. Blitzing and press man coverage is sexier and more aggressive, however elite QB's will destroy it quickly. Forcing elite qb's to bend our defense taxes their patience and the clock. People are misrembering Staley's defense. It had a strong bend but don't break component as well, and people complained about it too at this time last year. The problem with today's loss wasn't about large cushions to AZ receivers. It was about their #3 WR Green outclassing our #3 CB Long and an inability to cover their TE. Their elite QB taking our lunch money and our offense being FLAT. Morris makes for an easy whipping boy, after a bad loss BUT this loss wasn't simply about a defensive scheme. However I welcome opposing view points.
