I get why the Rams kept him given that he reduced his salary and the fact that punters can play seemingly for decades.
For years this guy was our MVP but it seems - with a very limited inventory this year so far - he is picking up where he left off and that isn't very good.
The 33 yard punt was a killer.
Not selling out to jump on the ball in the end zone - while not his thing - wasn't a good look either resulting in a quick 7 rather than 2 points.
I don't know, but it appears that Hekk has lost the magic.
Hopefully I'm wrong and he blows it up next week.
I worry the Rams kept the wrong punter. Hekker was bad again yesterday. Just not booming his kicks like he did for years. It was visible last year and it has continued this season. His leg looks shot.
Go Rams!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Small inventory indeed. Punting is like a golf swing and Johnny's leg strength is only part of the equation. He still booms in practice so I don't believe the issue is leg strength. I also believe he will clean it up. Someday...we will need him to pass the ball and remind everyone what makes him so unique. But our entire ST operation (except FG) seems to be continuing in the wrong direction. JR Reed losing contain against the Colts was deja vu. I'm not ready to throw in the towel but this HAS to improve.
