Oldnotdead is on a roll regarding this Morris D…
Here’s oldnotdead…
Morris isn't suddenly going to change how he plays his scheme just in one week. Another difference is Staley did a lot of pre-snap disguising of his play. Morris is what they see is what they get. It's why even mediocre teams like the Bears can move the ball. The Colts made a fundamental mistake when they didn't take the points when they could have. Those points were the difference in the game.
Morris' conservative style would have lost this game had it not been for miscalculations by Reich. If the Rams keep playing this way defensively, they will lose to a team they should beat who has a coach who will take the points conceded to him by Morris. The way Morris plays also will almost always result in a long field for the offense. Instead of stopping the opposing offense early he basically allows them to get to mid-field before tightening down. That's just plain stupid. Why is it stupid? Because he's got players that were the #1 defense in the NFL last year, that's why. It means he's not maximizing the potential of the talent he's got. Yeah, he's moving Jalen around but BFD if they can't shut them down to 3 and outs. How many 3 and outs has Morris forced? Compare that to last year with basically the same players.
I was willing to give Morris the benefit of doubt but so far he's proving to be a huge downgrade as a DC. He will have to radically change how he's playing his defense to make a difference. He acts like he's okay with a wildcard playoff spot, not the Lombardi.
