and it involves the Raiders, Kroenke and Jerry Jones. Jones and Goodell were the movers and shakers in getting the Rams back in L.A. Because Kroenke was willing to fit the bill entirely on building So-Fi Goodell and Jones did not want the Raiders there for fear they might outdraw the Rams and also didn't care for the image of Raider fans in the beautiful new stadium. Both Goodell and Jones also new San Diego was never going to build a stadium with public money and the Spanos ownership group couldn't afford to on their own. So the deal was struck with Kroenke to have the Chargers as co-tenants. If that relationship were to continue it will take a couple of winning years for them to get anything equal to their fan base in SD
Unless the NFL agrees to pay the lion share of a new stadium in SD I don't see them going back.
As far as a fan base goes the most logical co-tenant would have been the Raiders. They have an enormous fan base in So Cal. Kroenke, Jones, and Goodell did not want that for the reasons above.
