There is more to it than that...

there is also the personal, emotional side. Hekker is not just 'some' punter... he's possibly HOF. He's a big part of why the Rams are here right now... he was also a fan favorite, an engaging personality.... perhaps not to you, or some, but he was for many, and I'd bet good money he was to his teammates.

If McVay believes the Rams are ready to make a SB run, and I think he believes exactly that, cutting Hekker loose on the eve of that will weigh heavily on his mind.
