he could change the bottom line to bring it up to so-so but he couldn't move the needle ant farther. It was also a weird thing in that with those so-so years he could not develop the team with what you would think would be above average options available. Top end of the draft every year added with the ability of close to 1st stab at cuts/waivers.
What I saw was a guy who did not choose well in his surrounding staff, they had similar issues IMO...very poor (for the most part) in being able to coach guys up....they would draft guys with certain abilities and the guy would come in and basically play college ball in a Pro World. they would look out side to get vets who already had the game down (or so they thought) but those abilites would not match up with what the RAMS wanted the vet to do.
It's the fact that Sean understands the meaning of coaching, he eats it up, he loves learning he loves teaching what he has learned. he loves guys with that same DNA......Thought when they got that creep from the pats to be our OC we had it wrapped up...Fish doing D and the creep doing the O.....he did us real good....then left out the back door into the trap door of the pats and got back home unharmed...It was pure Fish looking for a guy because he couldn't or didn't have "IT" himself to see what was needed...Did the same in player development and FA choices....he hit on some good draft picks, but when you pick in those areas you should hit on some that's just expected....I mean you know it's going to be 9 o'clock 2x's a day so a broke clock will be right 2x's a day.....nothing to it.
