that in that first preseason game the OL performed at such an abysmal level that it precluded a good analysis of the RB's themselves.... a good analysis, but not 'none'.
Both Funk and Jones showed indications that they are more prepared than I think most of us are giving them credit for. For example: Even on the plays that failed both exhibited, to me anyway, that elusive quality of good RB's to get every inch they could manage before the whistle blew the play dead. That's no small thing, IMHO. Another: Neither, again it seems to me, displayed that tendency so many RB's possess, and drives me up a wall, to attempt the impossible which nearly always ends up losing more yards than needed to be.
They both have, I think/believe, those qualities good coaching can take and then shape into NFL quality running skills. They are not polished... I think they can be polished... and that may not happen after one preseason game, or two, or even "X" number of games into the season.... but I think this year they may both be making us all reassess our early assessments. - JamesJM
