Also to some extent it's stuff we have discussed too. But either way an OL being able to run power or trap or zone makes defensive fronts work harder on more prep through the week and focus in less on individual matchups. Back when we ran such heavy zone with Gurley teams could focus in on player flaws and tells in their game. But there's going to be a big difference when you have a front who can do a bit of everything.

McVay mentioning Akers being part of the reason for opening up that stuff is yet another indicator of what a huge hit his loss was. And going forward it's important to note that Hendy's a zone guy. That desire to be more diverse up front helps Jones much more than it helps Hendy IMO. It might help out Funk too, though I think his run style is a really nice fit in zone.

No matter how we slice this thing though the OL is also a big part of the run game expectations. And that trio we have inside (Edwards / Corbs / Evans) have some serious size and power to move DL. So I am hopeful that Hendy comes in hot and kills it behind those guys this year. But whoever ends up winning that starting role should be set up to have a nice season statistically, provided they can stay healthy.
