Then we've probably set ourselves back a while.. I just have this bad feeling their reluctance to bolstering the O line is gonna bite us in the butt.. and potentially get Stafford hurt.. and then we're really screwed..

This year ought to be fine. That's assuming that Corbett is fine at center (and until I hear different, I do assume that). It's also assuming then whether or not Evans is good enough, they have depth behind him (the guys we've heard things about are Anchrum and Brewer). In case Whitworth misses games, Noteboom did play at LOT last year and while not great he wasn't a big liability.

Ah but--2022.

Word is Whitworth is retiring after 2021. Who replaces him?

Noteboom may rise to the occasion but then he's a free agent, and if he doesn't improve to the point of being considered a franchise LOT, do you pay him? If you don't pay him, then, you need to replace him. Problem is it's hard to replace a left OT. Low draft picks really can't be counted on. Maybe they can trade up to round 1 where the pickings are better, or maybe in 2022 there's a good trade or a free agent (things you usually cannot count on).

Corbett is a free agent too. Assuming he works out, he will command full grown 2nd contract money. If he doesn't work out (though I think he will) they need to find a center. That would be finding a center on top of tending to the LOT position.

I think they have candidates for both ROG and ROT, which means that Hav could be expendable. He might be expendable because they could use the cap space and as a rule a team doesn't want to pay 3 big contracts on the OL...if it gets to 3. Even if it doesn't get to 3 the cap is tight, and if you can replace Hav it helps you pay Corbett.

Short version: there are big OL issues in 2022 but 2021 ought to be fine.

I think most dissenters are concerned about cost not the player

Yeah, I can agree with that..

The OL ought to be fine in 2021, it's 2022 that raises the issues

zn115July 08, 2021 07:54AM

I kinda wished they would have drafted an LT this year..

sstrams154July 08, 2021 09:56AM

Perhaps. It's not my memory of it. But... all "costs" are relative
