Rams' CB duo ranked 3rd in the NFL heading into 2021 season

No single player carried the Los Angeles Rams defense to its No. 1 ranking last season. It was a complete effort from every unit on that side of the ball, from the pass rush to the secondary.

However, the pass defense was especially good, led by Jalen Ramsey, Darious Williams, John Johnson, Jordan Fuller and Troy Hill. Hill and Johnson have since signed with the Browns, but Ramsey and Williams are still in L.A. as the best defenders in the secondary.

Bleacher Report’s Maurice Moton ranked the five best cornerback tandems in the NFL heading into the 2021 season and at No. 3 were Ramsey and Williams.

At cornerback, the Rams have star quality in Ramsey and a budding talent paired with him on the boundary.

Last season, Darious Williams made the leap from a backup to a full-time starter. He recorded four interceptions and 14 pass breakups in a breakout campaign.

The only duos ahead of the Rams’ tandem were Stephon Gilmore and J.C. Jackson of the Patriots (No. 2), and Marlon Humphrey and Marcus Peters of the Ravens. Rams fans know all about Peters and his game-changing plays, but he’s not as consistent or reliable as Ramsey and Williams.

The Rams hope to keep Ramsey and Williams together for a long time, but at the moment, only Ramsey is signed beyond 2021. Williams is playing on the one-year restricted free-agent tender this season, so he’ll need a long-term extension after the season.
