And it confuses me so much lol not only is he a much better right tackle than he's giving credit for, but even if he were averaged to slightly below average, he's on an amazing team friendly deal.
It's not an amazing deal--if memory recalls, it was a standard issue right OT deal in the year he signed it.
The problem with that is, you can replace a right OT and find a good one easier than many other positions. That's probably based on the fact that every single NFL capable tackle can play ROT and only a few of them can play LOT. You just have more bodies who can play the position.
Hav has had up and down years. He was pretty bad in 2016. I even defended him and said I wouldn't write him off. He was pretty good from 2017 through most of 2018 though that didn't hold up all season. 2019 he played poorly, probably because he was hurt, it seems, all season. 2020 he was back to being his better self. But that better self is a much more effective run blocker than pass blocker. In the handful of games where the Rams OL got dominated, he was one of the culprits.
Hav has his head screwed on right but he can be up and down, depending. My issue is that you don't need his contract--it's just not that hard to find replacement ROTs who will pay for less. Young low draft picks and/or bargain FA vets who are closer to the end than the beginning. Those types.
But Hav is a solid citizen who is capable of having good years. So I see why they like him.
