McVay's batting average in collecting assistant coaches is off the charts. He sends so many guys into the HC ranks it may unprecedented. He has this ability to know exactly what he wants. And it begins with incredible game knowledge, the ability to communicate and identify with they players and his peers, and to teach. This is not an easy combo to find.
Frankly, to worry about Morris not being a top D Co-ordinator for the Rams is picking nits from other nits. There's never a guarantee of anything; but I think McVay is the Warren Buffet of coaching picks. The guy simply has an ability that few other have. I easily push my chips to the center of the table with whomever McVay brings in to work for him. His track record is just too amazing.
