Leonard Floyd's $64M deal named worst contract on the Rams
[
theramswire.usatoday.com]
The last player they gave a big contract to was Leonard Floyd, who signed a four-year deal worth $64 million back in March. It comes with $32.5 million fully guaranteed in the form of a $14 million signing bonus and $18.5 million in guaranteed salary the next two years.
Spielberger points out that DeSean Jackson’s $4.5 million “will also likely not look all too great when the season is done,” and that Goff’s $24.7 million in dead money this year was also in contention to be picked as the Rams’ worst – even though he’s not even on the team.
Ogletree, Tavon, Gurley, Cooks & Goff are always going to be brought up as terrible kneejerk premature contract extensions.
They got all of these terribly wrong to some degree.
There were pros and cons to doing these extensions but they will go down as very bad football investments by the Rams brass anyway you spin it.

The Rams organization has a history of giving premature big money extensions to players that backfired on them.
Some of them were bad luck and some of them could be viewed and rushing to judgment.
I was totally on board with Floyd's contract.
I'm pretty sure he would've gotten a similar contract offer from another team in free agency.
I was skeptical about how much they had to pay to bring DeSean Jackson on board.
I was on board with both of the Woods and Kupp extensions.
We all expect Stafford will be the next mega buck extension.
The Rams are not shy about taking gambles on contract extensions.
Their batting average for success is not good but the odds are they will finally hit on a few of them.
The organization knows their past failures and I'm hoping they've learned from past mistakes going forward.
