Watching the games you see the edge he brings over and over in his secondary use, from the way he rolled coverages to his use of safeties in the run game post-snap. He really didn't get his butt handed to him until Green Bay, schematically speaking. They did a number on him but still we were in that game the offense just couldn't help out. I mean sometimes you're gonna be in shootouts even when you have a great defense. The defenses that you can win without any offensive help are the ones that get remembered through time like the Bears and Ravens.
But he's going to learn what a lot of great coordinators have learned in the past this season: running the entire show is a different deal. Chargers will have a well coached defense but he's going to be distracted with a lot of BS he didn't have to deal with under McVay.
Many of us knew after the first 10 games of the 2020 season that Staley was special.
His weekly interviews sold me.
The way he communicated week after week leading up to the next game on the schedule was obvious how talented he was.
The way he brought the Rams 2020 defense together during the pandemic was nothing short of spectacular.
He may not splash as much with the chargers because he doesn't have Donald and Ramsey but his defensive roster is no slouch.
McVay scooped Staley up for a reason. McVay has an eye for coaching talent like he does for player talent.
Charger fans are very optimistic and they should be.
He looks small like McVay but Staley is the big man on the Chargers campus.
