the "winning seasons" thing is not a real measure of KS

Not to sound like a hater because Lord knows they have owned the head to head with the Rams recently but why all the media Niner's glorification. Yeah Kyle has had some runs as an OC but as a head coach he has had one count them one winning season.

McVay inherited a team that was missing just a few pieces, but already had Gurley, Goff, and Donald among others. I say this often because it's true--if you look at the history of one-season turnarounds, invariably, the new coach inherited a roster full of talent. Rebuilds take longer. That's one reason why Demoff said in 2017 that it was not a rebuild .

Shanahan came aboard with a team that needed a rebuild, and he lost several key players to injuries--something that did not happen with the Rams.

So you have to look beyond the record in this case. I know Parcells once said you are what your record says you are, but while coaches and players probably have to think that, it's not true objectively. Different teams can be 8-8, for example, for completely different reasons. Maybe one underachieved, another overachieved; maybe one team is a young team that's a year away and another is an old team that is declining; maybe one had massive crippling injuries. A record quite simply does not always tell you what a team is.

Shanahan inherited a rebuild that then was struck by heavy injuries.

McVay inherited a lot of talent and has been mostly lucky in the injury dept. Not to take anything anyway from McVay--this is not criticism. He did take full of advantage of what he inherited, but he just was never in a rebuild situation like KS. Obviously, teams tend not to win when they are in rebuild situations.

Now if the injuries abate we'll see how soon KS can stack up winning seasons.
