Have to keep in mind someone's brand and also, the opportunities that lie in the Golden State. New York taxes are high too, but you have more business options presented to you in California & New York then other states. Now if you land in Florida or Texas, that's fine, those are the only two that do not present State Income Tax, but they get you other ways. Good example is in South Carolina for example, where it's very costly to register your vehicle, States are going to get theirs one way or another. Now again, it doesn't help that the taxes are so high, but IMO, what matters is compensation and opportunity and California will always have that.
