If Whit retires, you can sign another whit.
If Corbett leaves get another Corbett, etc.
Also, if they are starting Blythe and Corbett over guys like Allen and Evans, I wonder if they actually won't mind letting them walk.
There tend not to be viable FAs at LOT. Rams were lucky they got AW in 2017. That happened because the Bengals blundered and let him walk. Maybe luck will be with them and there will be a FA in 2022. There usually isn't though--either way it's not something you can count on. And the draft tends not to work for LOT unless you are picking in the 1st round.
Replacing Corbett will be easier then replacing a left OT but what they face is either paying Corbett or finding a new guy WHILE ALSO dealing with an issue at left OT.
Either way, because of prior work they did, they had a Corbett on hand to replace a Blythe. They did that work in 2018 and 2019. They didn't do it in 2021. That means they are not as prepared for 2022. There is no other Corbett already on the roster. While, again, they ALSO face issues at LOT.
As I said maybe they will luck out and there will be a FA in 2022 they can sign to play LOT, but if you look at what are usually the best options for getting an LOT, their best bet would be to trade up into round 1.
While they're also looking for a center.
While they're also looking to either sign or replace 4-5 other OL guys.
I agree with Rodrigue. This was the year to add OL depth for the future.
