I know what you're saying. But this is a game of judgment. How much holding is too much. How much physicality between WR and CB makes it a flag or not.... and if it's too much is it offense or defense penalty. How hard can you hit the QB before its roughing the passer. And the thing is, it's these judgment calls that are the critical ones and they can never be correct in everyone's eyes. That's why they're called JUDGMENT calls. And you have scores of refs that all have different brains.
Sure, off sides, illegal procedure, turnovers, did the guy cross the goal line, these are clear because they are NOT judgment calls. They are black and white.
If every call has to be "correct" it's going to become a 4 hour game because to be certain of the correctness, every call MUST be reviewed. And I hate the idea of a sky booth official overruling a call on the field, or even stopping play to make his own call because he sees a penalty that the refs on the field don't. Good grief.
Football is not a game of precision as much as some would make it. It can never be when you have 22 enormous athletes involved in every play, on a field that is so big.
