Well, both have been hurt recently. Jackson the past couple of seasons (maybe due to age...maybe due to him not taking care of his body). And Ross? His entire pro career (possibly because his body isn't made for the rigors of pro ball).
I believe that both have their positives and negatives:
- Jackson is a one-trick pony that's very good at his one trick. Plus, he should be familiar with McVay's system. I'm very interested to see how he reacts to being a 3rd or 4th receiving option on the team. I'd also like to see if he'll be a will blocker for other ball carriers.
- Ross is younger and likely faster than Jackson. But because he's been hurt so often, I can't tell you if he can even make plays down field with his speed. But from what I've read about him while with the 'gals, he's a team player. When things weren't going for him on the offensive depth chart, he volunteered to play defensive snaps just to get on the field...which, I think, led to an injury. Looks like he came cheap enough.
Anyways, I'm hoping that limiting Jackson to 20-25% of snaps should keep him fresh for the whole season. Keep him out of traffic and headed towards the post should give us what we need. Shouldn't prevent us from drafting another speed element in the draft.
