Which is a big deal for ensuring they sustain the comps. And he's got a lot of talent. If they can get him for a decent rate and he's the guy from two years ago this secondary just got better.
Two questions, both loaded.
Where would he play other than as a returner?
How much would he cost?
He will play in the slot. Here's a
really good read from last season where they discuss teams' tendencies nowadays to load top threats into the slot for verticals. And note that verticals in particular are effective vs the Cover 3 that has proliferated the NFL since Seattle's rise years back. Check the Rams' film vs the Seahawks and you'll see paired deep routes forcing the single high to choose. For this reason as well as the crossers there is going to be a continuation of split safety resurgence and in particular quarters schemes in 2021.
No idea as to his cost. He was a solid corner outside the hash two years ago. The medical side is key here IMO.
Here's a quote by him from the linked site above re: the slot btw. And note that the Rams do in fact move their corners around to combat slot abuse as well as get better run fits inside the hashes on certain down/distances.
“If I’m going to be playing more inside at nickel, and the difference is it’s more about being more aware of your surroundings for what the safeties may have, or the linebackers and everything, because you all play on one accord. You all are together, that’s the big difference. When you’re playing corner you pretty much have to worry about yourself in those aspects, and playing the nickel is a lot of different assignments and alignments and techniques that come into play. Being able to go in these virtual meetings and listen in and see the picture, and the virtual classroom and things that we do to help get a better understanding and knowledge of the role and position just in case I’m needed.”
