That the Rams want to keep a little of that restructuring money (Stafford) available just in case some team, with a low 1st round pick, decides to go after Williams?
I believe he is worth a 1st round pick the way he played last year. If you knew the Rams only have 6-7 million available, you just create a contract the Rams couldn't match with their current financial situation and Williams would be yours.
Just thinking this out a bit...
Interesting possibility, RFT.
Couple of things occur to me.
For one thing, it would surely be restricted to teams drafting in the bottom third of 1st round, wouldn’t it?
And it would also have to be a team ready, willing, and able to comfortably offer DW a contract somewhere in the $10M+ range, don’t you think? Maybe more?
I’m too lazy to look it up but I doubt that there are many teams in that bottom third that also have a crying need for a CB.
I’m feeling relatively comfortable that DW will be a Ram this year.
But next year? Ummmmm...
No team has ever given up a 1st to sign a RFA. Teams value those 1st round picks too much to do that.
DW will be a Ram in 2021.
