It's been my contention that of all their FAs (big ones) this is the one that is most important for the Rams. JJ will be missed, but we have Safety depth coming out the ears. Ebukam was jag. No big loss. The next one that is important for the Rams is Fox although nowhere near the level of Floyd. Tendering Williams at a 1st round pick level was a no brainer.
The idea of Clowney made me a little sick to my stomach, but I don't think then even for low bucks (half of what Floyd was paid) that the Rams would have signed Clowney. The classic underachiever wherever he goes. It's not system or the guys he plays beside; it's him.
Center is going to be interesting because although Blythe isn't popular on this board, he seems to be acceptable to the FO and McVay as a starter.... even if there of course are better. Continuity as a OLine is critical. And I doubt the Rams want to put Stafford behind ANY rookie Center. So if they can't keep Blythe, they'll probably sign another FA Center.
