rightly focused on comp picks and bargain FAs

One necessity in trading away 1st round picks is maximizing middle and late round picks- and part of that is adding to them through the comp. picks formula. Clearly part of their strategy and I would assume they try to net multiple 2022 comp. picks yet again. That's done by (a) letting high-priced guys go, (b) signing guys released elsewhere (do not count against the comp. picks formula) and (c) minimizing free agent deal sizes otherwise.
