Carberry worked with Callahan, and Callahan was McVay's first choice for the OL in 2017, but for reasons I don't remember, Callahan couldn't do it so Kromer was the fall back.
I am not all that sure about this "knew McVay in Washington" model of hiring, but...if it works it works. So let's see if it works.
I can't remember the last newbie OL coach the Rams hired. From 2020 back to 1997 it has been veterans: Kromer, Boudreau, Loney, Hanifan.
I always think of great OL coaches as veterans. But then they had a great newbie OL coach in 1983, Hudson Houck. One of the great OL coaches in his time.
...
Hudson Houck reference. Nice! I was so annoyed with Chuck Knox when he came back for his second campaign in the 90s and didn’t lock up Houck. As history shows, Jimmy Johnson snapped him up and the Great Wall of Dallas was forged.
I can’t even remember who Knox hired come to think of it.
