You’re joking right?
Nope. If Goff plays significantly better next year, and I don’t mean just W/L record here, than he did in ‘19–‘20 then I think it raises serious questions about McVay’s coaching ability. But if Goff still exhibits the same struggles, then I feel that that supports McVay’s good judgment on this matter.
Similarly, if Stafford has a huge year then it further supports McVay’s coaching judgment status.
Obviously, I’m expecting McVay to be vindicated by the respective QB performances.
The ‘thought provoking’ part was mostly about the last sentence in the OP.
Namely, “The Podcast also mentioned that Goff had a questionable work ethic and a low football IQ (in so many words)”. Them are some volatile words, man. Lol.
First, some people like easy answers. There could be a number of reasons Goff had 4 bad games in 2020 and did not advance. It could be him, it could be the coach, it could be both, it could be other things, it could be all of the above.
Though anyone who tries to assert Goff did not play well for 2 years is just doing the bad football analysis thing where they ignore 2019's OL issues. Mahomes couldn't overcome critical OL problems, why should anyone else? The issue is 2020 not 2019.
Both Goff and McVay could do well in 2021 and it will prove nothing about 2020 either way. They both could do poorly in 2021 and it will prove nothing about 2020 either way. Or any combination people want to think of.
All IMO of course in case anyone needs to hear that for some reason.
