Every year I dream of the Rams prioritizing the offensive line in the offseason and every year it seems I end up shaking my head in frustration. Last year was the most shocking to me. While stats say they improved, the condensed offense was a patch that hid the weaknesses. The only saving grace seems to be that the other three teams in the NFC West do the exact same thing.
So this year, I'm not allowing myself to become attached to any upgrades on the OLine. I will always celebrate Tom Mack, Adam Timmerman, Dennis Harrah, Jackie Slater, Orlando Pace, Rich Saul, Doug Smith, Tom Newberry, and Andrew Whitworth. I will always contend that the strength of an offensive line is the most important unit of a football team (the defensive line is #2).
In short, either this line improves dramatically over this offseason or you won't see a tremendous amount of optimism from me about our prospects for a championship.
