I posted this in another thread but perhaps it is a topic all its own.
D. Williams is, I think, on the verge of being a perennial Pro Bowl CB. He is a real play maker.
Which makes me nervous that even a 1st round tender might not be enough to keep him. If I'm drafting 20 or lower, the chances of getting a guy that good are small. And D. Williams is an instant plug in to any D.
On the flip side, losing him and getting a 1st round pick isn't a bad consolation.
From a strategic standpoint, the secondary guy that the Rams need to focus on is Hill. Rams have many good safeties. I know losing JJ isn't great, but the cupboard is full of Safeties. Hill, on the other hand, can play slot or wide. Versatile guy. If they can keep Hill for modest money ($5-$6 mil per year range) I'll bet they do it.
I think it;s possible they lose him even with a 1st round tender.
But they could use the pick plus the Rams have shown they're very good at acquiring DBs.
So I agree with you that getting a 1st for him isn't a bad deal at all.
I mean, we're discussing 2 CBs that have value, Hill and Wms, and the Rams picked them both up for nothing.
