Just as Tom Brady had an effect on luring free agents to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, Matthew Stafford is expected to do the same for the Los Angeles Rams.
Shortly after the Rams and Detroit Lions agreed to a trade that would send Matthew Stafford out west, the quarterback began receiving texts from players that wanted to come join him in Los Angeles, per sources.
It is very similar to what happened last March, after Brady and the Bucs reached agreement. Players began reaching out to Brady and the Buccaneers, expressing their interest in relocating to a new home to be around a great quarterback and great weather. They all wanted to be a part of a program that was trying to become the first team in NFL history to reach the Super Bowl in that team's home stadium.
Stafford experienced a similar result to Brady last weekend, while the Rams will try to follow Tampa's path next season and become the second straight team to play the Super Bowl in its home stadium, with Super Bowl LVI being played in 2022 at SoFi Stadium.
One of those players who is expected to be interested in joining Stafford in Los Angeles is Lions wide receiver Marvin Jones Jr., per sources. Jones is scheduled to be a free agent this winter and he grew up in Fontana, California, and later attended Cal. The Rams and Jones seem like a natural fit even before free agency begins March 17.
And there will be others as well. The Rams will have a recruiting advantage over some teams with the city they play in, the stadium they boast and the quarterback they have.
Lots of excitement from around the league on the Rams after the trade. I heard Gil Brandt this morning on SiriusNFL say Les Snead has been calling him and the only time Les calls is when hes excited to talk. Also, Vinny said the the Rams FO is still celebrating over getting Stafford, and he thinks they are the favorites to win the NFC this year. The Rams have a lot of buzz right now. Gotta wait to see where Watson goes, that could change everything if he goes to the Niners.
