Long before the Super Bowl the Pro Bowl was a really big thing. AFC v NFC and it was played as if it was a real championship game much like the Super Bowl. Fan interest was tremendous mainly because the two leagues were totally separate and pretty much unknown to each other. If you were a Ram fan you were an NFC fan and since you never played an AFC team you knew nothing about those "other" teams.
