He gives Detroit options. He can come in and be an immediate competent QB for 2021 which, had they tried to look at FA QBs, would have been hard to do. And if he thrives in Detroit, great, they keep rolling with him in 2022 and 2023 while having multiple 1st round picks each year to build around him. If he's mediocre again this year then maybe they draft a QB in 2022 and he is merely a bridge guy until the draft pick can start.
