There is something going on behind the scenes.... off-field..... that has at least as much to do with this sudden turn of events and open disdain for Goff. I don't know what it is. But as has been pointed out, even when a player doesn't perform up to standards, that player is not called out. And it's not like Goff has been horrid. Just not as good as he was the first couple of years under McVay.
We've had a few guys with off-field issues (like Franklin-Meyers) that simply were sent packing with nothing said. And like was posted about Gurley, as obvious as his on-field decline was to everyone, he handled himself pretty well off-field and so the Rams more or less stood by him as far as public comments go.
There's something much deeper going on here and I'll bet when it comes out some day, Snead, McVay (and Kroenke) will be given some credit for being as reasonable and understated in their words as they have been. NONE have attacked Goff personally the way some coaches do with their players that were in the doghouse.
