First, is there a team out there who is willing to take on the last 4 years of Goff's contract (to the tune of$102.8M, $40.825M of which is guaranteed), give up some draft capital for the privilege, and then wait until after June 1 to start his offseason program?
Second, trading Goff after June 1 doesn't change the dead money the Rams absorb - only when they absorb it. Prior to June 1 it's $22.2M against the 2021 cap, after June 1 it's $6.8M against the 2021 cap and $15.4M against the 2022 cap. (Note that only 1 team has less cap space in 2022 than the Rams - the Vikings at $37.8M. [
overthecap.com] If the Rams pushed another $15.4M to 2022 then the Rams would only have $17.8M in cap space in 2022!!)
I haven't heard this screwball theory yet but I'm just going to throw it out would minnesota be willing to swap cousins for Goff? I see this as almost a disney plot of switching these two guys and pretending that they are the other person lol. But seriously could this even happen we know McVay has ties to Kirk. I wouldn't really like this trade one bit but I know they both have exorbitant contracts and Kirk's is expiring next year I believe. Does this make sense at all with the cap we could release ourselves of goff albatross contract. Minnesota gets a younger version of kirk for close to the same price. We have a year to see if Kirk is the answer for McVay?
