I'm always surprised when, facing a dire game situation (down 8 points, time dwindling away), a team doesn't go "full bag of tricks" such as a RB throwing a pass, etc. A Dontario Poe doing a jump-pass for a TD, that kind of thing, there might be others.
Rodgers, I'm sure, still today laments not sprinting to the corner once he emerged from the scrum. It was a very uninspiring choice right there for someone who has won, and still can win, games using his legs.
Once Green Bay reached fourth down, though, I wasn't surprised when LaFleur ordered the FG. I remember John Madden writing in his first book, "You give your quarterback three snaps to get the ball into the end zone, and if that doesn't work, then, well, he's had his chance, and you've got to come away with some kind of points."
But what did surprise me was that LaFleur didn't then order an onside kick. Again, that play can be "full bag of tricks," anytime that ball goes bouncing things can happen. I look forward to the day when someone will try an onside kick using a line drive point-blank at the front wall, hoping for a no-reaction ricochet back to the kickoff team.
