Good post and I agree. But this particular hire strikes me as McVay's first "friend" hire. This is a nod to background and history and past association moreso than Morris' performance in Atlanta. And yes I know the defense stepped up after he got the job. But the disturbing possibility there is that the team hated Quinn and firing him was a lift.

I'm fully behind McVay. He's my guy. He's the coach I've always wanted us to have. So I am hopeful this hire works out. But the mechanics of this one are a deviation for McVay and that is something that bothers me.
