Safeties are a strange lot in FA. They could get CB money, they could get ILB money in FA. Usually the guys who get the big bucks are ball hawks. Could we define JJ as a ball hawk? In his entire career with the Rams, he's had 8. This year he had 1. You be the judge. And he was healthy all year.
I think JJ is to the Safety position what a Game Manager is to a QB. Efficient, but not game changing. Not spectacular but steady. Is that going to bring him big bucks? Dunno. And I don't think JJ or his agent knows, nor does the Rams.
The other thing about JJ is that the Rams are up to their hips in young Safeties, and Les seems to have the Midas touch when it comes to drafting Safeties.
There are 2 guys on D that the Rams have to figure out: Hill and Floyd. Those guys are not going to be easily replaced and at least 1 of them is going to be gone. Probably both. And I'd bet at least 1 to the Chargers.
