We were discussing whether the OL was responsible for the lack of deep shots this year. Clearly, Wolford coming in one game and throwing it deep 8 times means that it's the QB deciding not to take them, not because the OL isn't providing enough protection.
Now that we know one game is sufficient sample size to discuss an entire offensive design all season...let me reinforce R2K's point. Wolford throwing longer incompletions does not mean anything.
Why would they do it? Well I suppose having played Arizona already they knew the Cards were no threat to their OL. Cards have to blitz to get pressure and with Goff anyway, the blitz is beatable.
It could be that they believed a more mobile qb makes up the for OL issues, so they could make more longer attempts, but again that doesn't matter---they couldn't do anything with it.
All that adds up to looking at the wrong issues for the wrong answers, which is R2K's point.
